By Pam McCollum:
The other day, I was reading chapter 7 of 2 Chronicles and something in verse 12 got me to pondering.
The Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said “…I have heard thy prayer...” So what was Solomon’s prayer? To find the answer, you have to read chapter 6:14-42. It was a long prayer, but basically, asking God to listen to the prayers of His people, to forgive their sin, and heal their land.
Solomon had finished building the temple, which was a place of sacrifice and worship to God. During his prayer, he prayed that God would have His eyes open constantly, on the place of prayer, the temple. He asked God to act and judge fairly, according to the situation. All through his prayer, Solomon asked God to listen to the prayers of His people and forgive their sins.
Christians should take notice of the first thing Solomon did as he began his prayer. He acknowledged God as the supreme God, “…O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heaven or in the earth…” (2 Chronicles 6:14) Solomon goes on saying God is the only God that keeps covenant and shows mercy. Do you think God would be more willing to listen and answer our prayers if we started acknowledging Him as the supreme God that He is?
God’s answer to Solomon’s prayer can be found in 2 Chronicles 7:14. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.”
Folks! America, our land, is in desperate need of our prayers. God’s eyes are open, and His ears are listening for the prayers of His children to heal their land. If we want God to heal our land, we (Christians) must do 4 things:
1. Humble ourselves – We must not let pride stand in the way
2. Pray – We must always be in a state of prayer. Praying for guidance and direction in making decisions. Praying for our leaders to make the right decisions. Praying for courage to stand up for what is right, no matter the cost. (Jeremiah 29:12 – Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you)
3. Seek God’s face – We must constantly be asking God to show us what to do, and to cleanse our hearts. We must seek God while He can be found.
4. Turn from our wicked ways – We must forsake our sins and repent and turn toward God. We must ask for forgiveness. God is faithful and He is just and He will forgive, if only we ask.
We are living in despairing times in America. If ever there was a time for all Christians to come together and pray for our country, it is now. 2 Chronicles 7:14 gives Christians possession of our land and all Christians have the ability to call upon God’s power to heal our country. I challenge each one of you to humble yourselves, pray, seek God’s face, repent, and ask God to heal America. God will hear from heaven, and will heal our beloved America. May America become the nation that God can truly bless with healing. God Bless you.
